On Thursday, a US federal judge said that Pfizer's Celebrex trial should be thrown out because it failed to prove that the drug's side effects were caused by the active ingredient,, in the medicine.
The judge said that the company "may not be able to prove that Celebrex caused the development of Celebrex-induced heart disease".
The judge also said that Celebrex was not known to have the same side effects as other pain relievers, such as aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs, in the body.
The judge also ruled that the Celebrex trial had been "overly suggestive" of a connection between the drug and the development of COX-2 inhibitors, or Cox-2 inhibitors.
"Celebrex, which is marketed in the United States under the brand name Celebrex, and Pfizer's other formulations, have not been shown to be associated with the development of COX-2 or Cox-2 inhibitor-associated heart disease," said the judge.
The trial is the first of its kind in the world to show that a drug causes heart disease.
The trial is expected to be held on September 7.
The US Food and Drug Administration is recommending that Pfizer's Celebrex trial be withdrawn.
Pfizer is taking a decision in its Celebrex trial, which was stopped by US federal judgein June. Pfizer and the FDA have been reviewing the results of a study that found that patients taking the drug in the Celebrex trial suffered from a higher risk of heart disease.Pfizer is to be halted on the basis that the trial is over, Pfizer said on Thursday. The judge said that the Celebrex trial "does not meet the standards of the FDA in its assessment of the safety of Celebrex, and the agency will continue to evaluate the scientific evidence that has been produced and make recommendations on the way forward".
The US has the power to make laws and regulations concerning medicines, the FDA is expected to decide whether to approve the drug.
The trial has been suspended because it has not shown that the drug caused heart attacks.
The FDA, on its own, has not been able to determine whether the Celebrex trial was more harmful than the other drugs in the study.
Pfizer has also said that it would appeal the FDA's decision on the safety of the drug in the Celebrex trial.
Pfizer, however, is confident that its Celebrex trial will be upheld and will continue to be a success, despite the drug's label change.
Pfizer is also concerned that the Celebrex trial could be delayed because of the lack of proof that the drug caused heart problems.
Pfizer's Celebrex trial also found that the drug increased the risk of heart attacks.
The trial was stopped after a study showed a greater risk of heart attacks among users taking Celebrex than people not taking the drug.
The Celebrex trial was stopped because the evidence of a link between Celebrex and heart attacks showed that Celebrex users were not at higher risk of heart attacks than patients who were taking the drug.
The trial was not stopped for the same reasons, Pfizer said, but will remain on the market.
Pfizer will appeal the FDA's decision, saying that the Celebrex trial is "not an appropriate use for Celebrex."
The Celebrex trial is expected to be halted in late May.
Pfizer said that the Celebrex trial was being discontinued because it had not been shown that the drug caused heart attacks.
Pfizer is to be stopped on the basis that the Celebrex trial "does not meet the standards of the FDA in its assessment of the safety of Celebrex, and the agency will continue to evaluate the scientific evidence that has been produced and make recommendations on the way forward".Celebrex 200mg capsule contains the active ingredient Celecoxib.
